A group of activists from the Latin American Federation of Rural Women (FLAMUR) led by its director Belinda Salas Tapanes and accompanied by members of the Republican Party of Cuba (PRC), met this morning in the July 13 to pay tribute to victims of the Tugboat of "March 13".
In the Emboque de Regla, a place known by its inhabitants where access to the sea is easy, these women met carrying flowers and t-shirts of the campaign "With the Same Currency", to recall how 14 years ago, 37 people including young children were killed by the sinking of this boat by Cuban coast guard.
They were besieged by more than 40 members of the State Security and many people of so-called rapid response brigades, which shouted words such as "worms" (a derogatory term used by some officials to say they are against the cuban government), and other names. The event culminated with arrests, abuses and at the end, they were followed by members of the political police for several blocks to make sure they would return home.
